Rather than take one of the many tours offered by Princess or the hotel, we decided to rent a car so we could see the sights on our own. First stop was the North Pole. As we expected a lot of Christmas stuff, candy canes and Reindeer.
Next stop was the Pipeline. Much more than we expected.

The Museum of the North at the University of Alaska had an amazing Polar Bear exhibit. Catherine photographed most of it before they told her NO photos. Oops. But, Gene said it okay... It was elsewhere, just not the polar bear exhibit.

We stumbled into Pioneer Park on the Chena River and a fabulous Salmon Bake where the special was grilled salmon, deep fried halibut or prime rib plus all the stuff that goes with it for just $13. They also had lots of old buildings and stuff to see.

After dinner, we walked along the River and watched boaters, canoers, and the sun set. Our flight left at 1:30 AM. Thank goodness we had first class seats so we could sleep.
